Showered in Gratitude

Shower meditations have become a new ritual that I look forward to the moment I open my eyes. In a world that tells you that you need to buy the latest and greatest product or experience to achieve wellness, we often overlook how we can incorporate moments of solitude in simple motions we move through everyday.

This is at the forefront of my mind since becoming a new mum. Something as simple as taking a shower can be one of my most appreciated moment of the day. A moment to re-set, be truly alone, nurture myself and step out a new version of myself.

I hope that this ritual can help elevate and inspire your mornings:

  • Set the water temp to a level that feels perfect

  • Step in, envisioning the cascading flow as a cleansing, healing and loving light

  • Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Pause for a moment and feel the warmth of the water trickling down your shoulders and back

  • As you exhale, smile. Mentally wish yourself good morning and express gratitude for the start of a new day

  • Breathe gently and slowly

  • Without judgement, draw attention to your thoughts. Allow fears and doubts that no longer serve you to be washed away with the sound of the water

  • Focus on how it feels on your skin as it runs from the crown of your heard to the soles of your feet. Let it cleanse and soothe mind and body

  • As you slowly and carefully wash your body, take time to send love and gratitude to every part pf it, inside and out

  • Shift your attention to your chest. Place your hands over your heart and thank it for its power to give and receive love each day

  • Hands still in place, feel the water’s energy in every cell, organ and muscle. Continue to breathe normally and allow it to awaken, invigorate and energise you with each inhalation and exhalation

  • Open your eyes, turn off the water and step out. Pause and savour a moment of blissful quietude

  • You’re now ready to meet the day with renewed energy and focus

On special occasions, i’ll enhance this meditation with a shower steamer. My favourite are from kindbod. You can use code WELLWJ20 for a little discount.
